Eccles is World Champion

Joanne Eccles from the University of Glasgow won individual vaulting gold at the World Equestrian Games in Kentucky. The 4th year dentistry student came ahead of the strong field to become the first British world champion in the sport. The success comes following her European gold in 2009 and a string of wins on the European circuit in 2010. An elated Eccles said "I think I am still a little bit shocked. I had to wait until it appeared on the board to really believe it. Coming from Britain, where the sport is so small, I am overwhelmed," she said. "Vaulting has been improving and growing in Britain for the last couple of years and my medal last year helped everyone realise what can be achieved.”

We wish Jo continued success in 2011.
